'a year to live' groups
How to live this year as if it were your last.
If you only had one year to live, what would you want to be different in your life? Perhaps a situation has been draining you for a long time, or maybe you feel like you've missed out on something that's important to you. As far from death as we think we may be, just practicing living as if we only have one year left to live provides courage that can overcome our fears, and let us live fully and joyfully before we die.
Without calling death to us, being in 'A Year to Live' group lets us investigate what it means to live and die fully. Iit is a process of curiosity and healing that lets us savor our lives and let go of the fears we may have toward old age, sickness and death.
Based upon the book 'A Year to Live' by Stephen Levine (read a wonderful interview with Stephen here), the monthly small-group format provides support and a witness as our "final" year unfolds, and we end the year with a day-long Completion Day that is both liberating and insightful. Rebirth is optional!
We explore: - our fears around death and the process of dying - and also our fears around life - reviewing our life: unfinished business such as forgiveness and grief, and gratitude for what and whom we have been given - who we really are: who (or what) is it that is born as Me, and who is it that dies? - our beliefs about what happens 'after', and guided meditations to explore possibilities - the empowerment and creativity of planning our own passing: writing our own eulogies, considering what we would like to have happen to our bodies, 'ethical wills', how we would like our deaths commemorated by our loved ones.
Take this opportunity to sharpen life and soften death while we still have the opportunity.
Contact me if you'd like to discuss whether 'A Year To Live' group is right for you. I am currently only leading groups in San Francisco, although I am exploring the possibility of offering a dial-in phone group for out-of-town participants. |
