about me

"Follow your bliss and you'll know why you're here."

My name is Dean Bellerby, and what I do is help others learn to live their best life.

A few years ago I felt like I had "woken up" to find myself living a life that had just happened to me; one that felt more like someone else's.  Was my career as rewarding as it could be?  What and who was important to me?  What was I offering back to the world?  Why wasn't I fully satisfied, even though the usual standards of society rated me as doing really well?  And most of all:  who was I really?   This last one was particularly surprising, as I had already spent a number of years (and countless hours in therapy) learning to value and express myself as a gay man.

This was a challenging time for me, and I felt very alone and confused.  Through much exploration (and lots of trial and error!, I learned how to shift from living life without much thought to living an intentional life that is both satisfying and mine.  I realized that my experiences had given me the capacity to help others through their own personal investigations, so that they are supported, guided, challenged and just less alone

I can show you how to learn to transform yourself, too, using my own learnings plus the methodologies I have been trained in as a Certified Integral Coach(r) through New Ventures West.

Career-wise, I have 22 years of corporate, non-profit and entrepreneurial experience in four different countries (I am originally from New Zealand, and have lived in the US for 10 years).  This diverse real-world experience lets me know what it’s like out there…not always easy, but certainly easier (and most definitely do-able) when you have expert support.

My view of the world and my place in it is formed in part by being a student of the Diamond Approach, which is a practical blend of both Western and Eastern approaches to psychology and spirituality.  Other aspects of my life that contribute to who I am are my Non-Violent Communication practice, my hospice work with the Zen Hospice Project, my role in coaching the 'working poor'  and at-risk youths through non-profit Springboard Forward, my faculty position mentoring new coaches with the coaching school New Ventures West, my daily meditation and body-connection practices that help me develop presence and offer it to others, the support of my personal communities (family, friends)....and of course the Year To Live groups that are my joy to facilitate.

My intention is to continue exploring what it means to be a spiritual being having a human experience.   And to offer that exploration to the world, through Integral Coaching and Year To Live groups.
