about integral coaching
"Each one of us is perfect as we are and we can use a little improvement."
Integral Coaching approaches each person's individual topic by addressing not only the topic but the whole person. Typical topics that are addressed are: - more satisfying connection and communication with others - finding and unleashing your passion, and exploring how that passion can become your contribution - stronger connection with yourself and your spirituality - consistent physical well-being and a real relationship with (instead of to) your body - greater career effectiveness - including a satisfying work-life balance - financial health - successful life transitions (such as retiring, changing careers, bringing your work into line with your values, or bringing about a relationship change) - consistent self-care and replenishment, including dealing with that draining 'inner critic' that we all have.
How Integral Life Coaching works: As an Integral Life Coach, I think of myself somewhat like a personal trainer at the gym. A gym trainer assesses the client’s strength, flexibility and aerobic capacity, and then recommends an exercise program to meet the client’s goals. After that the trainer provides support and challenge as the client works to create effective change.
Similarly, I make an assessment about the way a client is approaching a topic in their life, then I offer a new way of seeing and approaching that lets the client observe their own behavior and change it through building new strengths. I help the client through this process by providing both support and challenge, and also by offering new practices and ways of seeing things that open up possibilities.
Integral Coaching vs. Life Coaching: Life Coaching addresses the topic that the client brings to the coach. This is useful, but can be limited: after the coaching has ended, the client is likely to have a different topic arise that will require more coaching. In contrast, Integral Coaching addresses the whole person, not only the topic that is the immediate concern. Taking this wider view creates more fundamental change for the client, and the ability in the future for the client to address on their own a wider range of challenges and opportunities.
